News from the Office – April 2019

Hello members and paddling enthusiasts,

Much has happened already this year with club events, State Championships, slalom/whitewater/freestyle festivals at PWC, and of course our statewide Series are flourishing – the PNSW Marathon Series and the PNSW Harbour Series proudly sponsored by Carbonology Sport. Over Easter we will be hosting the National Canoe Polo Championships at Penrith. We thank all our Committees, hosting clubs and volunteers for conducting these safe and enjoyable events for our members.

PaddleNSW has quite a few projects underway in 2019. You may have already seen opportunities for interested females to gain coach/ instructor/ guide qualifications. If this is you please apply. Information is on our Facebook page.

We and all other state bodies are working closely with Paddle Australia to streamline and modernise our membership system. This will make renewal (whether in June/July or rolling) much easier and straight-forward for members and potential members. PaddleNSW is also seeking feedback from clubs and members regarding membership incentives and benefits. Prizes will be offered – watch this space.

PaddleNSW relies almost entirely on a wonderful volunteer workforce. State level, club level, all levels. Your efforts are always appreciated. Maya Gibson did a fantastic job with the newsletter last year and now we welcome Adrian Gilchrist into the role. This is his first edition and we hope you find it entertaining and informative. We are privileged to have two university interns join us this year. Nadine and Tristan will assist with projects such as school involvement; para-paddle programs; club surveys and volunteer management programs. If they contact you please be helpful.

I’ll be taking leave with the family over the school holidays, returning 6th May. If you have any membership or club enquiries during that time, please direct them to Paddle Australia. For all education, recreation and paddlesport enquiries, please contact our sensational Committee Chairs.

Paddle safe and paddle often. Cheers, Peter Tate CEO
