Big River Canoe Club Update

BRCC has continued the very popular Whitewater Weekend events on the Mann River with 75 paddlers attending the February weekend. An updated format was used at the weekend where paddlers could choose the level of skill and activities they wanted to learn, from basic strokes and river reading, whitewater skills, wave surfing, eskimo rolling, rescue and slalom. The new BRCC competency system is also proving successful in guiding paddlers as to the skills they require to improve their whitewater paddling and giving the club the ability to rank and grade paddlers to allow for selection of appropriate paddlers for various trips. Another recent success has been the Slalom Scorpions program which brings together slalom paddlers from the Northern NSW region with coach and paddler Declan Ellis in an online format. The program aims to increase slalom skills for our young paddlers in a fun and interactive way, keeping them motivated and paddling regularly. Declan makes session plans and suggestions and delivers technique instruction by providing video examples and reviewing video uploaded by paddlers in online group discussions.

Stay tuned for more upcoming events including the NNSW Regional Schools Champs which will be held on March 18/19 are supported by BRCC.
