Race 6: Penrith

Race 6 of the 2022 Marathon Series will be run on the Nepean River adjacent to Nepean Rowing Club, Bruce Neale Drive Penrith, hosted by Penrith Valley Canoeing on Sunday 19 June 2022

Early Bird Entries Close 13 June, All Entries close 15 June.

Registration:
ALL paddlers must complete the registration process. For the avoidance of doubt, that means BOTH paddlers in a Double, and ALL paddlers in anything bigger.

Course:  

Left Image: Event staging area, with start/finish line, boat assembly and parking marked. 

Right Image: Turn buoys for the 10 and 20km courses.

The course start is adjacent to the Nepean Rowing Club, heading south up the Nepean river to the designated distance turning buoys. 20km Divisions (1-7) paddling 10km up river and returning, Division 8 paddling 7.5kms before returning, Divisions 9-12 paddling 5kms before returning, and Division 13 paddling 2.5km up river before their turn. The turn points are clearly marked by 3 x yellow turning buoys marked with the course distance (i.e 5, 10, 15 and 20), but it is up to paddlers to know at which point they must turn and return to the finish line.  Safety crews will be positioned at each turning buoy if paddlers are unsure of distances.

Juniors will paddle courses as follows:

U8 & U10      – 2km total (turn @ 1km)
U12               – 5km total (turn @ 2.5km – with Div 13)
U14 & U16    – 10km total (turn @ 5km – with Divs 9-12)
U18               – 15km total (turn @ 7.5km – with Div 8)

There will be no on-site pre-race briefing.

Paddler Check-In:
Check-in and Number collection will OPEN from 08:15am.
Check-in and Number collection will CLOSE at 09:25am (before the Div 7 Start)
Please collect your number before 9:25am or you will automatically receive a DNS once the Race Clock starts.
Social Distancing will continue to be a focus for 2022, so please remember this when queuing for Check-in.

Start Times: NOTE DIVISION 6 & 5 TIMES
09:30am – Division 7 & 20km SUP
09:40am – Division 6 & 15km SUP
09:50am – Division 5 & 10km SUP
10:00am – Division 1, and then remaining Divisions at approximately 2 minute intervals thereafter.

Covid-19
All the usual Covid conditions apply – please don’t attend if you’re experiencing ANY cold or flu-like symptoms, or if you’re supposed to be in isolation for any reason.

Paddlers entering for their first race in a PNSW Marathon Series, and any paddler wanting to enter anything other than the Division they last raced in, or were assigned to, should choose one of the “Ranking” race Divisions. (unless entering in Divisions 1, 8, or 9)
