CEO’s Message – Sept 2021

River Canoe Club of NSW

We hope all our members and supporters are safe and healthy during these COVID lockdown times. Although the restrictions are frustrating, as a sport we are fortunate to be permitted and able to exercise on our nearby waterways. Please be respectful of the NSW Public Health Orders in your local area. Mass participation and event competition will be returned sooner to the sectors that have displayed responsibility and vigilance during these challenging times. Don’t be the reason our lockdown is extended.

I take this opportunity to thank so many of our members for renewing quickly in 2021/22. Your peak state body continues to advocate on behalf of all members for more and better facilities, cleaner and safer waterways, and of course with our clubs offering wonderful events and activities for participation.

Approx 89% of our members are also club members, and we naturally commit significant time and effort towards the enhancement of services for our 43 affiliated clubs across NSW and ACT. In coming months we will work closely with Club Committees to gauge infrastructure needs; and open dialogue for improved diversity and inclusion within our sport. Right now we have university students liaising with our clubs about prospects for paddlers with disability; and improving our networks for coaches and instructors.

A reminder that the PNSW AGM and Club Forum will be conducted online Thursday, 16th September. Registration is essential. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy and don’t forget to reach out to friends.

Cheers, Peter Tate
