Membership, Volunteers, Events…..read on…

  1. PaddleNSW Membership

Last week PaddleNSW opened membership renewals for 2017/18. In that time 231 members have already renewed. We thank you for acting so quickly. If anyone is having difficulty, please contact the AC helpdesk – helpdesk@canoe.org.au

Confirming full membership is required for any paddler competing in club and community races, any paddlesport discipline (inc polo, freestyle, marathon, open water, slalom, sprint and whitewater) and state and national races/champs. The recreation category is a cheaper option for members who will not race or compete throughout the next 12 months. Suitable for members who wish to paddle on the Harbour or their nearest river, either solo or in a group, without a stop-watch or a prize at the end of the event. Recreation members will not be covered for public liability nor personal accident insurance if they participate in races or time trials, so they should choose Full Membership if that is their intention.

PaddleNSW membership fees for 2017/18 (inc GST):

  • Full adult member $80
  • Full junior member (aged 8yrs to U18yrs as at 1st July 2017) $60
  • Recreation adult member $62
  • Recreation junior member (aged 8yrs to U18yrs as at 1st July 2017) $40
  • Family membership (2 adults and unlimited children U18yrs) $180
  • Children under 8 years of age (as at 1st July 2017) FREE
  • Non-paddlers who are volunteers, officials, carers FREE
  • Adult event members (single event only) $20
  • Junior event members (single event only) $10

PaddleNSW strongly supports our club system. The annual fees above include a $10 discount if you are a member of an affiliated club and have nominated such club during the payment process. PaddleNSW direct members pay an extra $10 (adults) or $5 (juniors). We encourage all renewals by 30 June, otherwise your 24/7 personal accident and public liability insurance shall lapse.

  1. Calling Volunteers

Your State Organisation is a volunteer-based organisation – just like your own club. We are extremely grateful to the Board, all our sub-committees and the brilliant event volunteers at state and club level. We simply would not survive without you. Opportunities always exist, so if you have time and expertise we would certainly appreciate your input. Remember, we are a NSW & ACT paddling body, not just a Sydney paddling body.

We are very keen to add a recreation paddle as part of the Myall Classic on 16 September. Is there is anyone who could design a “special” event for Rec paddlers – maybe a rogaine on water, or something that goes over the two days?  Please contact Tony Hystek or Lynn Parker.

We’d also like to identify Club leaders who would like to share their expertise in designing a Club training plan. Identify the type of resources to support instructors and Coaches in their Club.  Please contact education@nsw.paddle.org.au

A specific event coming up is the Sydney International Boat Show (3-7 August). Volunteers are welcome and will receive a pass to view the full show when not assisting at our stand. Please let me know ASAP.

  1. Events

In the past month I’ve enjoyed meeting paddlers and volunteers at the Lane Cove M10 event and the Harbour Series event at Pittwater. It’s very pleasing to see so many members come up to me and thank the PaddleNSW Committee organisers and the local volunteers. You all do a tremendous job.

I also had the great privilege of being at the 1st Birthday Bash of Newy Paddlers. My kind thanks to Mark Bretag and his hard-working committee for the invitation. I enjoy attending these special occasions and mixing with the members and I’m certainly happy to do similar with any of our 38 affiliated clubs.

Canoe Polo

Sydney canoe polo is currently on a winter break and investigating a new venue for the weekly competition. In the meantime the Australian Canoe Polo Training Squad is training in Sydney this weekend (either Parramatta River or Lake Parramatta) depending on rain forecast. Keep an eye out for these top players in the area.

Sprint

2017 PaddleNSW Sprint Series – Race1 22 July SIRC; Race2 20 Aug Avoca; Race3 23 Sept SIRC; Race4 15 Oct SIRC; Race5 12 Nov SIRC. Details and entry on the website.

Safe and enjoyable paddling! Peter Tate – PNSW CEO
