Celebrating Women in Paddling: Bron Powell

This March, we’re celebrating women in paddling, from volunteers and officials to those making waves in competition! Across the week we’re profiling seven women whose contribution to paddling has made a difference, be it in the running of events, gender balance on and off the water, building clubs and pushing the boundaries of what is possible on and off the water.

An all-round leader within the paddling community and a great advocate for paddling with a purpose, Bron Powell is a PaddleNSW Board Director and Chair of the Environment Committee. Since its inception in 2020, the Environment Committee and Bron has sought to “empower the NSW paddling community to care for and improve our environment” bringing together paddlers and enviromental organisations to “achieve environmental outcomes for our waterways”. The committee has brought initiatives including Clean Up Australia Day and SUPtember to the fore, and instigating the PaddleNSW Environment Forum for clubs and individuals to share ideas and resources.

Bron is particularly active within the community of Dubbo, and in December 2020 was one of the organisers of the first known Pride Paddle.
