Penrith Junior Paddling Program

Last month some of the Program’s top paddlers competed in NSW and overseas in New Zealand. Liam Gallacher (15) and Sophia Chen (13) headed up to Nymboida to race at the North Coast Combined High Schools Canoeing Championships.

Liam managed to secure four individual silver medals, in both the slalom and sprint categories for C1 and K1, showing his high skill level and consistent performance.

Sophia, who has been with the Program for a much shorter time, earned herself a 4th place in the Junior Women’s K1 and 3rd place in the Whitewater Sprint.

We congratulate both of these paddlers on their superb achievements and hope to see them on the start line again soon.

Moving abroad, Sophie Wilson (15) embarked on her first international tour with the National Talent Squad (NTS) to New Zealand in late March. She was lucky enough to compete in the New Zealand National Championships and National Schools Championships. Sophie took out the K1W U16 category at the Schools Championships and proceeded to win the Intermediate K1W at the Nationals.
