Be it due to the cold winter mornings or the effects of the most recent NSW COVID restrictions, the water might be a little harder to get to for some paddlers in the coming weeks. With a bit more time on your hands, here is a collection of videos to get you moving, whet your appetite for future competitions or allow you to marvel at some of Australia’s top paddle athletes.

  1. British Canoeing At-Home Paddle Workouts
    Our friends at British Canoeing have had their fair share of lockdowns over the last year, and released this great set of at-home workout videos in response. Across the six videos, tap into some paddle-specific exercises for strength, cardio and flexibility that anyone can have a crack at.
  1. 2021 ICF Canoe-Kayak Slalom World Cup Markkleeberg Germany
    For all the thrills of top-end competition from the very best in the game, look no further than the recent ICF Slalom World Cop in Markkleeberg, Germany. Australian athletes Jessica Fox, Noemie Fox, Daniel Watkins and Lucien Delfour paddled impressively, and the new Extreme Slalom event packs a whole heap of fun into just 90 seconds of whitewater.
  1. Ivan Lawler Technique Sessions
    Another lockdown initiative from the UK, multiple marathon world champion Ivan Lawler presents a six-video series on paddling technique. Each video discusses a part of the body and its associated function in the boat, finishing off with some accessible but potentially challenging exercises to work on technique and form.
  1. Snowy River Extreme Race
    Whet your appetite for an iconic NSW race with this video from the 2017 Snowy River Extreme Race. The event takes place in the Kosciuszko National Park over the October long weekend, offering expert and intermediate races sure to get everyone’s heart racing.
  1. Snow Kayaking!
    It’s winter, so why not finishing off with something just a little outside the box. Check out this adrenaline-fueled ‘paddle’ down a ski run in the Pyrenees, which was entered into the 2017 Short Film of the Year Awards.
