Harbour Racing, Race 1, Hacking Classic 4 May 2024

With the forecast weather conditions looking less and less favourable as each day approached our Saturday 04th May race, and at just 3 days out, even our Plan B contingency was looking doubtful. It was decided that we should create contingency Plan C and move to Grays Point and head to South West Arm and return.

This gave us a guaranteed start with a safe long course and a protected short course. We appreciate this was disappointing to some but hopefully our decision was seen as a better and safer option.

Race day arrived and we were greeted with a perfect window for racers, support craft and helpers. With the first two paddlers with only a 1 second separation; Ben and Cade it proved to be many races within the race and groups of paddlers were fighting for their own line honours.

Short course was represented well with 16 paddlers over the 8km course. Hopefully, a good time was had by all and everyone enjoyed the after race BBQ with compliments of Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club. Thank you to all the volunteers who ensured a successful event.
