Celebrating Women in Paddling: Sally Simons

This March, we’re celebrating women in paddling, from volunteers and officials to those making waves in competition! Across the week we’re profiling seven women whose contribution to paddling has made a difference, be it in the running of events, gender balance on and off the water, building clubs and pushing the boundaries of what is possible on and off the water.

Sally Simons is a wonderful leader at club and state level, wearing hats as both a coach and Chair of the PaddleNSW Sprint Committee.

When Sally’s kids started paddling with Sydney Northern Beaches Kayak Club, she helped Christine Duff coach the new paddlers. She loves coaching the juniors and seeing them come through the ranks and achieving great things on the water.

After a few years of club volunteering, the PNSW Sprint Committee needed some new members. Laura White’s succession plan landed on Sally’s lap and she has been Chair for the last two years. Always innovative and leading with a passion, Sally strives to provide the whole sprint community with great paddling opportunities. Her relationships with governing bodies, venue operators, host clubs, her Committee and all the athletes are friendly and cohesive – reaping the best possible outcomes.
